There's something to be said about presentation:
Whether it's a special night out with your love, a fun shopping spree with your bestie or a last-minute red-eye for work, getting somewhere with style (and in style) is more than its face value.
You've heard it said, "clothes make the man," but why is this? Are we all so superficial as to not look beyond the outer layer? Heaven forbid! Yet the saying hits home, and I've never met a soul that doesn't enjoy a tailored outfit that just… fits.
We're tapping into things deeper than, more than, clothes, cars, or well-placed silverware at a fine restaurant. Noticing our attention to detail, our ego's mirror, and all that entails is part of it, but I think the real "touch of the divine" is in doing all of this in the service of others.
I can't speak for others, but I love holding open a door for those behind me no matter where I am. It's not needed, not necessary, but is its own joy, like a mint with your cheque.
While it may be a stretch to connect holding a door with the clothes making the person, let me bring it home (I do love to ramble).
If we are meeting for coffee, and you show up ready for work, or the day, and I show up in pajamas with sleep in my eyes, it's not something you'd likely bring up, but it's a statement not just about oneself but about how I view their (your) company.
A concierge is dressed for their role, a server theirs, and so on, each reflecting a standard, a uniform presentation of fitness, detail, cleanliness and exuding competence, or at least that's the goal. How one dresses is always 50% for the viewer; let that image be its own statement, and in my industry, one of service.
May your clothes be tailored, your paint polished, and your meal impeccable!
One final saying: "How you do anything is how you do everything!"
Cheers! 🥂
