Gotta admit, didn't expect to see as many accidents on 17 as I did. It's like people don't know that mountains and speed don't mix well with water.
PSA: Your braking distance from 60 to 0 is increased by 30-50% when wet, but wait… it can be 200-300% further going downhill (like Hwy 17).
So make your follow distance 2-3x what it usually is.
Be safe out there 🫡

Funny story: my client in Los Gatos (tippy top of the mountain) can never find a driver that's willing to pick them up or drop them off… twice. They all give up after the first trip and ghost him afterwards, even though he pays well.
He's had drivers give up halfway, drivers complain like a child (even Uber Black), and he's had people literally shake and be afraid they were going to go over the edge. (I get it.) He even had one driver run into an embankment.
Suffice it to say he was glad he came across my biz listing.
PS: My brakes and pads are very new! :-)
But man, what a view… just don't look down.

Saw that Waymo's recent map expansion left out all of SC and the mountains, and as if fate needed to remind me why, I had a trip take me to a remote home high at the peak with 20 minutes of switchbacks, at night, with traffic on one-lane roads. 😮💨
Had a trip for a family from Aptos to Hacienda Hills for a rehearsal dinner. Google had one location and Apple Maps another. Apple Maps was much more accurate in this case, and with a bit of sleuthing we found the hidden venue thanks to having offline maps downloaded.
Moral of the story: log into both Apple and Google Maps and download your home area, especially if you live near the mountains.
